The
major difference of the Palomar Lux laser compared to the older lasers is that is it
non ablative. Ablative lasers are widely used for skin resurfacing but have more side effects and require a greater recovery period.
Non ablative lasers like the Palomar laser have little or no downtime and have fewer side effects. However, non ablative lasers do require multiple treatments spaced over a few months to achieve the same cosmetic benefit.
Overall, the Palomar Lux laser has a much faster recovery allowing the individual to return back to work immediately
The Palomar™ fractional skin resurfacing laser was developed to specifically target the damaged skin areas only. The beam generated by this laser penetrates the lower layers of the skin. The beam stimulates the growth of new collagen and also tightens up the collagen molecules, which eventually results in a new, tighter and smoother looking skin.
The beam also selectively removes the older and pigmented superficial skin layers and provides the growth of newer looking skin.

Because the Palomar Lux laser has an advanced cooling system at the tip, the pain is much less during the generation of the microbeam. This makes it more patient friendly and acceptable. The majority of patients do not require any extra topical local anesthetic for pain relief. After the procedure, there is almost no pain.

The disadvantage of the Palomar Lux laser is that it is slightly more expensive than other lasers.
Because each Palomar Lux session treats only 20-25% of the skin, a number of sessions are required to complete the treatment. On average, most individuals require 4-6 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart.
Depending on the severity of the condition being treated, some individuals may require more than 6 treatment sessions and unfortunately, the laser may not work in some people.
Results are immediate and progressive. Over the course of two or three months, new collagen begins to form, creating healthy, more youthful skin.
Even though skin tightening is immediate, the full cosmetic benefits of the treatment are not fully evident for 2-3 months. Over this time period, the collagen particles coil and tighten up the underlying tissues revealing a tighter and smoother looking skin.
